38. Helping Your Kids Find Their Passion, with Billy and JoJo Salyers

Growing up without a father who abandoned his family at a young age, Billy Salyers resolved to be a better father to his own kids someday. One way Billy has done that is by intentionally spending quality time with his kids through summer projects. From building a sailboat to 3D-printing battle robots to forging knives, the Salyers’ projects have provided bonding opportunities, funny stories, and endless growth opportunities for their family. In this episode, Billy and his son JoJo share lessons learned while exploring how to help our kids discover and cultivate their passions — something that happened for JoJo as one of the summer projects has turned into a career and ministry.

Bio: Billy is the owner of Yellow Rose Forge in Rutherfordton, NC. He and JoJo are the only father/son champions of the History’s Channel’s “Forged in Fire” competition. Together they make beautiful custom knives and anything else that can be crafted with fire, steel, and hammers. You can learn more at www.yellowroseforge.com and follow them on social media @yellowroseforge and @redeemedsteel. You can also support their Redeemed Steel ministry at redeemedsteel.com.
