60. The Heart of a Father: Desire Good for Your Kids
In this episode we continue trying to discern the "heart of a father" by looking at the idea that our Heavenly Father desires good for us, and that we in turn should desire good for our own kids. That seems like a pretty self-evident concept on the surface. All fathers want what's best for their kids, right? But for many, our relationship with God and our perceptions of Him leaves us wondering whether or not He truly does want us to prosper, as Jeremiah 29:11 suggests. And what if, when we analyze our own hearts deep-down, we realize that we may not in fact have the best interest of our own kids at heart? How do we reconcile the head-belief that God wants good for us (and that we should want good for our kids) with the heart-belief that perhaps it's not always that easy. Brett and Perry wrestle with these questions and share funny but relevant stories from their own fathering that provide some answers -- not only about what our Heavenly Father's heart is toward us, but also how we can do our best to replicate that heart as fathers ourselves.
A Dose of Motivation
“I may not be able to give my kids everything they want, but I give them what they need: love, time, and attention. You can’t buy those things.” — Nishan Panwar
